Kosakata saya cuma satu patah, betapa malang
Yang itu juga diulang, diulang, dan diulang
Di SMP-SMA disuruh menghafal tiga kata
Inggeh, Inggeh, dan Inggeh
Dalam pelajaran bahasa Inggehis
Di perguruan tinggi wajib menghafal tiga kata
Inggeh, Inggeh, dan Inggeh
Dalam kuliah bahasa Inggehis


Di pergaulan dunia bila orang bertanya,
"Do you speak english?"
Tanpa ragu-ragu menjawablah saya,
"Inggeh, Inggeh, saya spik Inggehis."

From the Mixed-up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler

Claudia was the first daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Steven C. Kincaid, Sr. in Greenwich, Connecticut. She was under twelve years old. She had three younger brothers, so sometime she felt injustice in her family. She felt that she was more ignored by her family, since she had three brothers. It was why Claudia wanted to run away from their home.
Claudia decided to go to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. She planned very carefully, she saved her allowance and she chose Jamie, the second youngest of her three younger brothers to accompany her. She decided that her leaving home would be just running from somewhere but would be running to somewhere.
Wednesday was the first day for Claudia and Jamie had a travel. They came and entered to the museum like a thief. By their smart ideas, they could enter the museum stealthy. Whereas, they could stay there for a few days, during they were leaving their home. Furthermore, they could also learn more things in the museum by horned in the visitors. Especially, they learned about the Angle statue that invited Claudia’s curiosity.
Claudia found an article of New York Times about Angle. The article mentioned that Angle statue was purchased from Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler. It made she wanted to know more about the statue and why the first collector sold it just for $225.00. That was the reason that brought them to Farmington, Connecticut, to meet Mrs. Basil.
Wow, that is absolutely the most interesting books that I have read. I feel like wander with them. How the children could decide to leave home and life in the museum. How they could go around the big city just to fulfill their curiosity about the statue.

MISS ZUKAS SHELVES THE EVIDENCE



            Miss Wilhelmina Zukas, was a smart detective living in an apartment. TNT, the neighbor, asked her to talk to his stepdaughter, Mary Lynn Dixon, because he worried about Mary’s weeping. She was crying because she was under the stress of losing her husband, Lewis Dixon. He was found die on the ground of tomatoes garden.
            That called Helma (Miss Helmina Zukas)’s anxiety. As a detective, she investigated it. She cooperated with police, hospital and other detective to know about that. By her intelligence, she could collect so much information from the evidences and all witnesses which were involved with Lewis’s death.
            All of the witnesses and evidence showed that Lewis was murdered. But, who was the murderer was the puzzle that must be figured out. The more puzzling was when between a witness and the other witness in recrimination. There was some guessing from every people, like Lewis was death because of heart attack, insulin injection, and poison.
 However, finally, Helma could figure it out. The murderer was Skip. He killed Lewis because he in love with Lewis’s wife, Mary Lynn. Lewis wasn’t attacked in his garden as everyone believed, but on this road, during his morning walk. He died in his garden, struggling to reach home before the insulin took effect.

            The book, absolutely make the reader tense. I was anxious finding out the new guessing in every part of the story, when I was reading the book. I could imagine the Helma’s action as a detective. I can conclude from this book that a detective must be cannier than the suspect. Like Helma, despite Skip was tricky, Helma could prove that he was the suspect.

THE WEREWOLF CHRONICLES: NIGHT CREATURE

Gruff was a boy in the wolf’s den. The only human stayed in the forest. He was grown up by a wolf mother, with wolf habits. He was about twelve years old. Although he was a human, but he couldn’t speak like a human. He couldn’t act like people. Wolfs had changed his fate. Hi lift like a wolf’s life.
His life was worse after a cub bit his thumb. It changed him to be a monster every full moon. When the full moon came, his muscles grew bigger. The skeleton in his arms, legs and all the part of body changed to be like a wolf, not a human again. He had become a monster. Gruff became a werewolf. Sometimes he was a human but sometimes he was more frightened than a wolf. He was like a night creature, a kind of evil. If he made a kill in the three nights of the full moon, he should have all the powers of a full blooded werewolf and remained a monster forever. He could change into human form at any time, but he must become a wolf when the moon was full.
However, Gruff still had human character in his heart, so nobody was killed by him when he was a monster. On the other hand, Gruff didn’t want to be a monster forever. He just went far away from the other creature, when he was a monster to detain his monster’s desire. That was to kill other.

Oooh, it’s so terrible story. I can’t believe that a human can be a wolf. I know it just a fiction story, but the book has brought me to the other world that forced me to imagine how terrible the werewolf is. Besides that, I also pride with the author, because of the authors’ creativity. They could make a full imagination story for the reader, where we can’t find it in the real life.

ROMANCE OF THE SNOB SQUAD


Snob Squad was a ladies group of sixth grade students. The members of Snob Squad were Lydia, Prairie, Maxine, and Jenny. Jenny was the leader of Snob Squad. All of them had an idol boy in their school, except, Max. Prairie liked Hugh Torkerson, Lydia liked Nick Claussen, and Jenny liked Kevin Rooney.  Prairie was the person who was the most inspired to her idol. She wanted to go with her idol in spring fling. So, the first project for Snob Squad was to getting Hugh to ask Prairie to the dance in spring fling. They only had four weeks before the dance. They called it, Operation Love in The Afternoon.
However, at the same time, their teacher, Mr. Biekmund volunteered their class to represent the whole school for sixth grade science fair. And the Snob Squad was determined to come up with a winning project. They planned to train rat to run an obstacle course. They wanted building tunnels and mazes. And at the end, the rat could ring a bell. Their science project was called the Extreme Rat-o-Rama.
Turn out their science project could keep pace with their first project. So, during the science project, Prairie often met Hugh, because they were classmate in science. Whereas, Hugh also helped Jenny to meet Kevin, because Kevin was his close friend and he also liked Jenny.
Unfortunately, after all of their efforts and Mr. Biekmund said that their project was excellent, the rat shuddered all over, closed its eyes and died. So they didn’t win the science prize. They just could make gathering for Prairie and Hugh in spring fling dance. 
I think, the book is interesting to be read. I was consoled by the story because the story is full of laughter. And the only could make me pride is their brilliant ideas, especially about training rat.

HERO- Who is the richest one?

Pernah terbersit dalam benakku, sebuah  tanya, "Who is the richest one?"
Tiba-tiba tangan ini terasa gatal, pikiran ini terasa jenuh, jari jemariku bergerak, meraih pena, menggores tinta...
dan inilah hasilnya...


 

 Teacher is the richest person in the world.
 Kenapa?
Coba aja pikirkan, siapa yang mampu menjadikan seseorang menjadi seorang presiden, Polisi, Dokter, Ilmuan dll? Pastilah tak lepas dari peran seorang guru. Siapapun guru itu, entah di sekolah, di rumah, masyarakat atau bahkan hanya sekedar pengalaman...
Guru selalu membuat orang lain kaya dengan kekayaan jiwanya. Teacher is a HERO.

The Tale of Despereaux

Author Biography
Katrina Elizabeth "Kate" DiCamillo born in Philadelphia on March 25, 1964. DiCamillo earned her college degree in English at the University of Florida in 1987 and worked in Florida after graduation. At age 30 she moved to Minneapolis and began working at a book warehouse. That job inspired her to write for children and allowed her to meet a sales representative for Candlewick Press, resulting in submission of a draft that would become Because of Winn-Dixie. Her 2003 novel The Tale of Despereaux was inspired by a friend's son, Luke Bailey, who asked her to write about an unlikely hero with "exceptionally large ears".
The novel is divided into four books. Book I covers Despereaux's childhood; Book II focuses on Roscuro, a dungeon rat with a mysterious past. The third book is about Miggery Sow, a servant girl who is sold by her father for a red table cloth, a handful of cigarettes and a hen. Summary
Within a castle, Despereaux was born with small body, large ears, and his eyes open.  His birth was a kind of disappointment for his parents, because he was the only mouse that still alive after the other mouse that born with him dead. Therefore, his parents named him “Despereaux”, for all the sadness and for the many despairs in that place.
Despereaux was a mouse who liked music. Through this likeness he could knew and fell in love with Princess Pea. He knew Pea when the music sound that was played by King Philip made him sitting near the foot of the King, so Pea saw him, then touch him. This was which forced him to be sent to the darkness dungeon, the place where Roscuro, a rat born in several years before Despereaux was born.
Chiaroscuro was the rat that had killed the Queen, the wife of King Philip, in the castle party. The queen dead after Roscuro made her surprised by fell to her bowl of soup. Since that moment, King Philip wanted to kill Roscuro, and it made Roscuro wanted to make Princess Pea suffer. Roscuro created a plan to make his want was done. He played along with the serve girl, Miggery Sow kidnapping Pea at a sleepy time. At that time, Despereaux appeared to save the princess, after Gregory, a kind rat, helped him to be free from imprisonment.
However, Princess Pea, who knew that Despereaux came to save her from the rat, prohibited Despereaux to kill him. She gave apologize to Roscuro and Mig, for their entire mistake. Moreover, she made Mig as a princess, suitable with Mig’s desire in her life and made soup party, for the Rescuro. After several month soup was decided as illegal because of King’s traumatic. Finally, they were happily ever after. Not because of Despereaux got his love and got married, but it was because all of them became friends.

5.      Think before you act, so you will not hurt others.
6.      Give priority to forgive, vengeful is useless.
7.      Do everything with love, so the most difficult things will solve easily.

The Unique Things
1.      Despereaux was a French mouse, but his mother named him “Despereaux”, that was taken from English word “despair”.
2.      Despereaux was born with his eyes open, it seems impossible.
3.      Despereaux was the mouse that created his bravery from a story of a knight in a book.

The Concept Of Religion Across Cultures

I.       The Definition Of Religion
Religion is any set of normative (i.e., action guiding) beliefs and practices designed to connect a community to the divine, i.e., the holy, or the "other").  The practices within a religious system are often referred to as 'rituals' (though the term certainly has broader connotative meaning). Ritual practice is thus any set of activities believed to foster a connection between the participant(s) and the divine. While ritual is often, if not usually, formalized in a liturgy, it can be less prescribed as long as the participant(s) recognizes the act as one aimed at fostering a divine encounter. Ritual practice can be corporate or individual, social or private and includes, but is not limited to:


·         prayer (or supplication)
·         curse
·         meditation
·         praise
·         sacrifice
·         washing
·         fasting
·         tattooing/scarification
·         burial  

II.    Basic Religious Concepts
A.    Belief in God
1.         Theistic God: the concept of a being which is (1) purely spiritual, (2) all good, (3) all knowing, and (4) all powerful.
2.         Theism
a.          Narrow         : belief in the existence of the theistic God.
b.         Broad           : Belief in the existence of some divine being other than the theistic God.
3.         Atheism
a.       Narrow         : disbelief in theistic God.
b.      Broad           : disbelief the existence of any divine being whatever.
4.         Agnosticism
a.       Narrow         : neither belief nor disbelief in the existence of the theistic God.
b.      Broad           : neither belief nor disbelief in the existence of any divine being whatever.
B.     Types of theism
            There are some types of Theism, they are as below:
1.      Animism               : belief that inanimate objects (such as statues or mountains) have souls.
2.      Polytheism            : belief in a multiplicity of gods.
3.      Henotheism           : polytheistic belief that each nation or country has its own god.
4.      Dualism             : polytheistic belief in two conflicting deities, one good and the other evil.
5.      Monotheism          : belief in one god, but not necessarily the theistic God.
6.      Deism              : monotheistic belief in a god who set the universe in motion and thereafter left it alone.
7.      Pantheism              : monotheistic belief that god is identical with nature as a whole.
C.     Revelation
1.      Special revelation              : divine revelation to humans which is (a) specific in content, and (b) for a specific audience (such as the Bible or the Koran).
2.      General Revelation           : divine revelation to humans which is (a) general in content, and (b) for a general audience.
3.      Theology                           : the human attempt to understand special revelation.
4.      Natural theology               : the human attempt to understand general revelation.
D.    Approaches to theistic belief
1.      Mysticism              : experiencing a union with divine nature by means of ecstatic contemplation.
2.      Rationalism           : theistic belief from rational grounds.
3.      Fideism                 : theistic belief solely on the grounds of faith (https://www.utm.edu/staff/jfieser/class/320-traces/religion-terms.htm)

Interculturalists, particularly those working in the field of missiology, differentiate “high” versus “low” religions. High religions are more formal and answer questions about: (a) origins, (b) the purpose of life, and (c) ultimate destiny. Logical consistency is important. In contrast, low religions are more informal and answer questions people face in everyday life, that is, (a) how to assure a productive crop, (b) why a sudden death, and (c) who stole the money. They are less concerned about ultimate realities and more focused on immediate access to power.
High religions generally have written texts, such as, the Bible, Qur’an, or Vedas. They are highly institutionalized with formal places of worship, prescribed rituals, and moral codes. However, low religions are more informally organized. Rather than sacred texts, tradition is passed along orally accompanied by reenacted drama and songs. Concerning with the religion all over the world, each religion has their own rules. That’s why as social beings, we have to keep our tolerance to other religion. It also should be applied to traditional religion of society. Richard Bonney, BA, MA, PhD, Director, Center for the History of Religious and Political Pluralism, University of Leicester, Leicester, United Kingdom in his journal Reflections on the Differences Between Religion and Culture” explain that traditional religions are defined as those religions which, unlike the world religions that have spread into many countries and cultures, have remained in their original socio-cultural environment. The word traditional is not taken to refer to something static or unchangeable, but merely localized. This illustrates the important point that cultures tend to be localized, whereas religions are not. For example, the headscarf (hijab), which is universally adopted by women in the Indian subcontinent, or other forms of covering adopted by women in Islam, the most extreme being the burqa. A Quranic basis, that is to say, a view based on the Qur'an, the sacred text of Islam (Q.24:31) is found for women's modesty in dress, although its interpretation is debated. Also, in Islam there is an important precept commanding what is right and prohibiting what is wrong (Q.3:104).

However, considerable differences exist among cultures as to right or wrong; eg, witness the collision between West African and Islamic attitudes to female nudity, where in the 15th century it was found that south of the Sahara "all the most beautiful girls walk naked among people with no covering at all. ''Most women in Afghanistan wear the burqa, but few do so in neighboring Pakistan. People often confuse traditions rooted in local culture with religious requirements. Regional specificity is a relatively easy and straightforward test of what is distinctively a cultural rather than a religious practice. This does not mean that the distinction is always observed. "Traditional dress" in this case would be a more appropriate term than "proper Islamic apparel," because devout Muslim women elsewhere in the world do not feel obligated to cover themselves entirely (Bonney: 26).

Motivasi - The Stranger

Belajar tentang kehidupan itu terkadang sulit, namun menyenangkan. Penuh tantangan. “The Stranger” demikian penulis memanggilnya. Dia mengajarkan banyak hal, tentang makna hati dalam kehidupan. Melalui Power Point ini, terimakasih tak terkira penulis ungkapkaan kepada The Stranger. Karenanya, penulis mengerti, apa yang harus penulis pahami.Semoga hasil karya ini dapat memberikan manfaat, tidak hanya bagi penulis saja namun juga bagi seluruh pembaca tercinta… 

Kaos Lusuh, Keringat Pertama

Aku terlalu menyayanginya
Kaos lusuh , keringat pertama
Tak peduli akan warna
Tak peduli akan noda,
Aku hanya ingin bersamanya,
Itu yang kurasa,

Awal Mei 2010, untuk pertama kalinya kupijakkan kakiku dengan penuh kebanggaan. “RAMAYANA MALL”, sebuah tulisan yang tampak tertera di muka bangunan yang kutuju. Hari Minggu, hari libur ketika tak ada perintah lembur untukku. Kakiku melangkah menuju sebuah bangunan megah yang belum pernah kutuju dengan rasa bangga, sebelumnya. Yaa, memang bukan kali pertama aku menjelajahi isi bangunan itu. Hanya saja, hari ini adalah kali pertama aku membawa rasa percaya diri, ketika aku memilih aneka ragam tawaran.
Merah, kuning, hijau, biru, putih, dan ungu. Serentetan kaos lengan panjang berlabel harga Rp 50.000,- memaksaku untuk memilah. Tentu saja warna putih adalah pilihan utama. Warna yang selalu membuatku terpesona. Tanpa pikir panjang, tanganku menjulur, berusaha meraih pilihan hatiku yang masih tergantung di rak hunger. “Yupz, langsung ke kasir”, batinku.
Kakiku pun melangkah ke kanan, menuju kasir. Terlihat antrian panjang para pembeli menutupi meja kasir. Aku enggan melanjutkan langkah itu, hingga akhirnya mata minus 3,5 ku menangkap sebuah lambaian kaos kuning lengan panjang di kejauhan. Modelnya hampir sama dengan benda di tanganku, tapi rasa penasaran pun muncul. Mungkin karena rasa ‘sok bangga’ku yang seakan segalanya. Yaaah, akhirnya, aku tergiur dengan kaos berlabel Rp 56.000,- itu. Pikirku, meskipun warnanya tak seindah warna yang kusuka, setidaknya, ada kekasih untuk si putih.
Deretan pembeli di hadapan kasir-kasir cantik mulai memendek. Dua baju lengan panjang yang beberapa menit lalu menutupi lenganku kini berpindah ke tangan wanita cantik berpakaian orange hitam.
“ Seratus Enam Ribu, Mbak”, ucapnya sembari menatap wajahku.
            Dengan senyum sok manis, kuulurkan tangan kananku, menyerahkan lembaran-lembaran hasil keringat pertama, dengan rasa bangga.

Meski bubur merah menyapa,
Aku tetap tak kuasa,

“Mbak, lap ya?”, kata Zahara sembari menenteng kaos lusuh yang diambilnya dari rak jemuran.
“Hei, itu baru aja aku cuci tadi pagi, besok tak pakai lagi, enak ment tex!”, jawabku dengan separoh logat khasku.
“Ih, Mbak Ozy…tak kirain ini lap, abisnya…udah kayak gini sih”.
“Enak aja, biar gini-gini, lebih berharga daripada baju baru kamu ki…”, balasku tak terima.

Yaaa…, kaos yang 4 tahun lalu putih bersih, kini telah berubah warna. Lusuh, penuh noda kekuningan karena getah dan tanah. Tapi, jangan harap, aku akan melepasnya begitu saja. Aku terlalu menyayaginya. Hingga sekedar menyimpannya pun, aku tak rela. Aku masih sering memakainya, tanpa rasa malu. Yang ku tahu, aku bangga, memakai kaos lusuh, hasil keringat pertama, selepas SMA.
